It finally happened! For the first time in my life, I envisioned my future. Don't get me wrong, I've always had dreams or thoughts of what the future might be like, but this was different. A movie began to play vividly in my mind. I quickly jumped to grab a pen and paper to write down the details as the production went on. I arrived home after traveling internationally. The steps of the entrance to my arched doorway are shallow and brick, lit eloquently by ground lighting to a massive black door. In my vision I only had one roller bag. I knew this version of myself had it together! Good for her, or me, I suppose. I opened the door to white marble floors, so shiny they appeared wet. A winding staircase was to my left, only caught from the corner of my eye. I closed the door and parked my bag. Straight ahead beyond the foyer I see my girls; the year appears to be 2030 based on their ages. Piper is obviously in her early college years and River seems to be of driving age. Chatting as they leaned over the kitchen island, it is apparent they have grown in their friendship and sisterhood with one another. They are happy, healthy, and safe. They see me, smiling and excitedly rush to make their way to me with open arms.
Suddenly, two red Dobermans race past the girls to greet me. With unfailing loyalty and great respect, they stop short of contact waiting for my approval. Of course, I kneel with open arms and squeeze my beloved guardians. To my right is a two story mahogany library, noticeably unmatched to the design of our modern style home. It's cozy and cylinder shaped, somewhat of a fairytale no doubt. Embraced on each side, my daughters squeeze me tightly and in unison turn around as we head beyond the foyer. To my left is the living area, the sofa faces a double sided fireplace, the primary suite behind that. To my right a massive kitchen sleek black and white, cabinets on the far right wall. A row of 5 single black pendant lights hang above a massive island that was continuous from the counter top to the floor (later determined to be a "waterfall island.")
The left of the home halts in a wall of windows to an outdoor wonderland, lost in the darkness of the night. I smile as I breathe in the familiarity. Behind the kitchen on the right is dining area..... and there he stands. He sees me, and our eyes lock. Just as I imagined it a million times, the magnetic pull draws me to him. He seemed different too, more relaxed, fulfilled maybe? He missed me and oh how I've missed him. He was good, we were good. In my vision he didn't greet me at the door with a glass of wine, but visions grow and change, so it will be. We retired beyond the dining room to a place I could not see, but felt in my soul. I told them about my latest adventure, a Ted Talk overseas. Crazy right? Me, public speaking? The girl who panicked for days prior to knowing she had a 10 minute presentation coming up. Travel was normal for me, but it remained unburdensome and at short bursts. My passion for inspiring others and influencing creation of one's own reality is truly unmatched. Another influencer or motivational speaker...you might think. You are right, the world is full of people telling you how to do it better, maybe even cheering you on as you do it. (Shout out to my favorite - Steve Harvey!)
Yet there I was, named one of the "10 Most Inspiring AND Influential Leaders In The World" by Inc. in that 2030 (ish) vision. I was being paid to do what I love, help people build their own vision.
Let me tell you one last thing. The reward is so much grander in my vision. The minute details of decorative designs in my home are for me. It is important because God knew I needed those details to cling too, little crumbs along the way. I will find that house or I will build it, because He showed me. BUT That house is not what fuels me, it was us.
I know longer fear sharing what God shows me. Hey, It's ok if he didn't show you, this is my vision. It is ok when others don't understand, it was not meant for them. It was meant for us.
This life was created from the seeds I planted. The fields I am tending grew us to 2030. My daughters reaped the reward of my confidence, they are strong. My freedom provided time for my marriage and family, we are connected. No longer bound as an 'outlier" I am free to think, create, move, build, speak, achieve, and walk away from that which does not serve me.
The combined emotional, mental, and familial rewards are priceless. As cliche' as it always seemed, I confidently know I have found my 'why."
